Mu Sigma Chapter of Greater Baton Rouge was organized on December 8, 1945 under the auspices of the Southwestern Regional Syntaktes (Director) Mary Scales Carter of Houston, Texas with the assistance of Sorors from the New Orleans area. Since that time, we have grown to a chapter serving the Baton Rouge and surrounding communities with over one hundred members.
With the sponsorship of three undergraduate chapters; Beta Alpha at Southern University-Baton Rouge, Gamma Pi at Louisiana State University, and Pi Iota at Southeastern University in Hammond, LA and our affiliates; Mu Sigma Philos and Rhoers, we continue to serve our community through events that will impact the society as a whole and provide scholarships to high school and graduate students to further their education.
The members of the chapter and their affiliates are dedicated to carrying out the aims of our Sorority that is epitomized through our mission; public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization's programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically and economically.
Throughout the year we provide several events geared towards providing the community with information on our signature project – Project Reassurance – H3, It’s All About Me – Healthy Living, Healthy Choices, and Healthy Generations. We also sponsor debutantes and Little People on Parade to raise funds for our scholarship program and community services projects.
Mu Sigma Chapter continues to weave a legacy of leaders as we serve the communities in which we live as expressed in our slogan “Greater Service, Greater Progress”.
